As a collector of fine music, I have bemoaned the fact that there are many great titles not available on CD. Now, don't get me wrong, I love listening to my record player and maintain a back stock of needles so that I'm never stuck not being able to listen to my favorite records. But let's face it, listening to a record in a moving car is a difficult task!

To that end, I started digitizing my LPs. This did a couple of things for me:
  • I have quality copies of my records and I'm not adding wear and tear to the vinyl.
  • My iPod can play the old stuff.
  • I can listen to my favorite records anywhere, even in a moving car!
Now that I have the digitization process perfected, I am offering these services to you.

Ah, you say, but isn't it illegal to make and sell copies of albums? I'm glad you asked. Copyright laws allow you to make a single copy for your own personal use. So, you can make a copy of that favorite LP.

How much is this going to cost you?
I charge $25 per album.

So, here's how it works:
  1. The record you want to digitize must be out-of-print and unavailable to purchase. I am not interested in taking away income from the artists who made the music, so if you can go to the store and buy a CD copy of the same album, you should do that. I'll only digitize music that is out-of-print. Besides, CD re-releases often contain bonus tracks and hidden surprises.
  2. You must be the owner of this record, and you must keep it in your possession as long as you keep the CD-R. If the record is thrown away, sold, or traded, your CD-R must suffer the same fate.
  3. Send your record to me. Make sure it is packed well. If you need advise on how to package your records so they won't be damaged, visit Bags Unlimited . They specialize in shipping and archival materials for collectors like us.
  4. I'll digitize your record and return it with a CD-R. I carefully clean the record and use high quality equipment to make sure that the best possible sound quality is reproduced onto the CD-R. Please Note: I am not a miracle worker, so if the record you are sending me has irreparable skips, scratches, or is warped, the CD will have the same noise. My prices include return shipping and handling charges within the US. If you are outside the US, please e-mail me for a shipping quote.
  5. Safely store your record away where it won't get damaged. You want to keep your records in a cool, dry place. Always store your records on edge. Never store them in a stack, lying horizontally as this makes them warp faster.
  6. Listen to your new CD-R copy and know that it won't warp or stretch like the cassette tape copies that you've listened to over and over in the past.

If you are ready to go, send me an e-mail, and I'll send shipping and payment instructions.
It usually takes me 2 - 4 weeks to convert your record to CD-R.
